Back To The Beginning

I have a list of iconic boats that I think would be wonderful for cruising around the Inside Passage, between Vancouver Island and mainland BC.  A month ago today, I was stunned to come across a Sea Pearl 21 for sale.  I thought it could be The One!  Decent price and only a couple of hours away.  Best part was, it was on Vancouver Island.

Diana and I rushed down to take a look.

The owners are getting on, and just don't have the strength anymore to sail and to take care of this legendary boat.

It was in rough shape but I decided that was all cosmetic.  I was aching for a new boat and aching for a project too, I guess.

It came with all the features and all the desired gear too.  Lee boards, water ballast, cat-ketch rig, sleep aboard under a brown canvas dodger.

I've always admired innovative and appropriate engineering. The Sea Pearl is loaded with it!

Of course, I bought it!  It came with such promise and such stories of past adventures.

Granted it would need work, but the sails are great.  They, along with the canvas covers, had been stored in the garage.
